Can you recommend a media converter?

Hi, Ive tried a couple 'free' converters to change my dvr-ms vids to a VMS supported format. The 2 programs I tried insisted on reducing the video to 50% its original size unless I upgraded, meaning fork over $30-$40, which I dont feel like doing. Is there a free, or even very cheap, converter I can use to save the original size of the dvr-ms video. Im asking you guys because everyone seems to be very knowledgeable in these things here.

Thanks in advance.

Have you considered SUPER? Google for it. Their website is hellish, but the program is rather good. Don't know if it will recognise the dvr-ms files, though.

Yes, Super is a good free converter, Handbrake is another.

Depending on what you plan on doing with your dvr-ms files, VideoReDo may be a "low" cost option.

Thanks I tried SUPER and it worked nicely. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'd like to add my thanks for that suggestion - it's going to save me a lot of unnecessary work in the future.

I found an even better one, and more convenient, called DVRMSToolbox. It made especially for converting DVR-MS and it includes an option for auto-editing out commercials that seems to work fairly well. It will only convert to WMV or MPEG tho'. Even so its faster than SUPER.
