Can You Split A Generated Solid Color on One Track Into Another Color?

I'm working on a video wall effect and was just noticing that if I split a solid color generated media, and then try to change the newly split clip into another color, it changes the color of both clips into the split clip's color. It looks like the only way to get around this is to do .png or .jpg clips instead. Is that because solid color generated media is a track level effect? Just curious.

splitting keeps the same characteristics of the source it was split from, it is the same clip, just split. instead of splitting it, you could ctrl+c to copy, ctrl+v to paste, select paste as new. Then you are able to adjust separately. Slightly faster than just dragging a new solid color event onto the timeline.

That's an especially important distinction when working with ProType Titler generated media.

If you "create a reference to the original media", you'll tear your hair out wondering why the text got changed in an event 15 minutes up the timeline.

If you don't believe me, just look at my picture.

You can change the color of a solid color generated media within the color event by setting keyframes (hold fade) for each color..

Thank you all.

After several years, I finally got Vegasaur and can't imagine trying to do a video wall without it.

I am trying to replicate the effect that happens right around the .39 second mark where a white square patterns over the videos on the wall. After playing around, I think I finally figured it out that they're using the automation levels. I notice the squares either go to white or black.

This video kind of blew me away and I was surprised, but shouldn't have been, by what Vegas Pro can do if you are patient and have some knowledge about how it all works. That along with Vegasaur and honestly, I'm really excited about trying to create some of these effects. Some of these templates are worth getting just to study how they did it. Not too mention this was done I think in Vegas 10!!
