Can you use prior plugins with latest Vegas?

I have the latest Vegas 23 Suite. However, it doesn't come with the Boris Continuum, or Particle Illusion, or the Vegas Special Effects, and the list goes on, with prior plugins. etc. This is a new build, so I don't have my prior releases on this machine (and I believe that a lot of the prior releases would have them in a shared directory).

Questions: Can I install some of the older plugins to get those features back again and will they work in Vegas? Is there a list or prior release plugs that were not used in subsequent but that would be great to have? I have used Vegas since 1.0 release--so I have a lot of "priors."

Generally, yes. Any OFx that aren't version locked should work.

The render engine changed so plugins using that (Voukoder, etc.) needed to be updated.

Depends how you got the plugins. If they were included in a Vegas bundle, then they were generally version locked. But if you bought them separately then they should still work (in most cases - as RogerS suggests - certain older plugins may stop working because of underlying feature changes in Vegas)

... or the Vegas Special Effects

If you are meaning Vegas Effects (a version of the now defunct HitFilm Pro) that came with some pre-Vegas Pro 23 Suite versions - no, that feature won't work in Vegas Pro 23. But if you have a pre-VP23 perpetual Vegas Pro Suite license that included Vegas Effects, you can still use Vegas Effects in that older Vegas Pro Suite version either by installing that older VP Suite version (multiple Vegas Pro versions can be installed on the same computer and used at the same time) or install Vegas Effects from the older VP Suite program and use it as a stand-alone program. I don't think that this will apply with subscription licenses as I believe that subscription licenses only make available 'extras' that come with the currently installed version of Vegas Pro Suite - with Vegas Pro 23 Suite, Vegas Effects is no longer included.

Recent Boris FX BCC plugins should work in VP23 as long as the Units/Filters are all from the same version - i.e a BCC plugin from version 2024 won't work if there is another BCC plugin installed from version 2024.5 or later.

The easiest thing to do is install the plugins and see for yourself if they work in Vegas Pro 23. If some don't, then uninstall them.

If you have FXHome's Ignite Pro (another now defunct product) it will need to be version 4.1 or above to function in Vegas Pro 17 or later.

I made this point in the recent Vegas Pro User Survey, when they asked why I preferred the perpetual licence.
