Cannot burn CDs w/ CDA 5.0a and HP 9300i CD writer

I just purchased CDA 5.0a for my recently upgraded Windows XP system, and am getting the following error when trying to burn a CD using an HP 9300i CD writer:

ATAPI MMC Compatible'-(0)
'atapi'-(1)
-'HP CD-Writer+ 9300 1.0c'-(0)
Module atapimmc.cpp Line 1353
A hardware error occurred.

Sony CDA Phone Support suggested that I try the following:
- Update firmware in HP 9300i CD writer - DONE
- Update system ROMBIOS - DONE
- Verify CD writer is IDE Master - DONE
- Install CS Architect 5.0a - DONE
- Select "Skip drive database on startup" option on CD Architect - DONE

Unfortunately, I still get the same error.

Has anyone ever experienced this kind of problem? Is it at all possible for the HP 9300i drive to work with XP and CDA 5.0a, and if so, how can I get this drive to work? This drive worked previously when I was using Windows ME (although I did not have CDA at that time), and HP does list this drive as being supported under XP.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Hi bgray. Sometimes things happends, especially when you upgrade Windows Me to Windows XP. I was looking around, to try to help you, because I had that problem but in a VAIO pc; after clean installation of WinXP Pro and the corrects drives, everything is working fine, so I recommend you to check this page, where you can find some answer to you issue. I hope everything be find, and this page can help you.
Did you do a clean installation of WinXP, or you installed over WinMe?
Good Luck.

Hi tommycash - Thanks very much for your suggestions. I did search both the HP Support web site (the URL you listed) and the Microsoft Support web site looking for any suggestions that may fix my problem, but with everything I tried, the problem remained. I had previously performed an upgrade from Windows ME to XP and not a fresh install because I did not have a way to easily backup all my data and restore it. In the process, I lost a network card that worked fine under ME; the Win XP OS stated that it was not supported, so I had to buy a new card.

The suggestions from Sony Support did not work either, so I replaced the HP 9300i with a Memorex True 8x Dual Format DVD Recorder and I can now burn CDs just fine. I would be good to know exactly what incompatability existed between CDA / XP and this drive, but I needed to get CDs out and this seemed like the fastest way to make this problem a non-issue. I guess this drive was just another casualty of my XP upgrade ;-)

Thanks again for your reply to my posting!
