Cannot copy an mpg to another drive

I was trying to move an mpg-2 mainconcept file to another drive (3.4 gig) and Windows 2K sp3 looks like it is going to copy the file until the last 1%. At this point, the time remaining (to copy) goes from 15 sec to 40530012 Minutes. Have any of you seen this? It is making me have to keep the projects on the drive, and am afraid that when I connect my new firewire drive and copy ALL the current projects, it will do the same.

That's happened to me before, but I just let it go and the file completes the move. One thing I've had problems with is pulling larger files <2Gig from one drive to another.

Just start the copy and walk away. The number is bogus and the copy WILL complete. Windows is very bad about calculating the copy time anyway. Just ignore the strange number and trust that the copy will complete. You'll know it's done when the dialog box goes away.
