cannot import a DVD

tried importing a DVD from the disc and also from a rip on the hard drive. Used both import media and import DVD camcorder disc. They appear to do it but then I get An error has occured during the current op an exeption has occurred. when i press OK the prog closes. I thought I could import DVDs directly or maybe I should convert to mpg with another prog. Rather use VMS if I can

If by chance you are trying to import a copyrighted commercial DVD, I can promise you this will not work. Hope this helps.

no, its home made dvds as well as commercial stuff. I use AnyDvd to get over that problem anyway

Even if you get it on the Vegas timeline, there will be problems with the sync of audio to video. The 'import dvd' function of Vegas is for importing video from camcorders that write on (small) dvd, not for importing vob files of home burned dvds.
