I think you're *WAY* over thinking the issue.

The MP4 files are stored as files on your hard drive. That's it. That's the complete and total description of the complexity of the issue.

Perhaps you would well benefit in the future from some initial project planning. When i start a new project, i create a directory (folder) on a hard drive dedicated to that project. I make sure the directory has a very representative name and is in a blindingly obvious place, such has something like this: E:\video_projects\2012-11-13_catskills_development_lecture\ and from there on out i save everything to do with this project in that directory. This includes all captured files from the camcorder, all graphics i create for it, the .veg file, any music files i'll use, etc.

Then, if i ever want to back up or move that project, all i do is copy that one directory. Done.

Final report on this as promised:

I took all this advice and was able to successfully get 7 theatre productions "transferred" over from the XP to the WIN7 and briefly opened/checked and saved to their new homes. It did take some time, then I had to go out for dinner and shut both systems down.

When I came back some 2 hours later the XP just will not start. There was the briefest of light from the blue led the first time now nothing. I'm trying every 2 hours as sometimes it will decide to cooperate.

I have sent a email to the Tech staff as I suspect maybe just the switch is all worn out. I am asking for a power/ switch check from the front of the machine back to the power supply.

Thanks again!

Bill
