Cannot open the Generated Media window.

Whenever I use the Generated Media window in Vegas Movie Studio, somehow (I don't know how) I do something and then I can't open that window again. When I click on the icon in the event to open the window, I can see it minimise itself really quickly to the taskbar but it doesn't appear anywhere.

I've read other posts on this forum with this problem, and people have said "try expanding the keyframe window". Well I have and it's not hiding in there. Someone else has said "try increasing your screen resolution". Well I'm already on the highest resolution (1280 x 1024). I've tried lowering it to 800 x 600 (I thought it might be worth a try), I've reinstalled the graphics card driver, I've reset Vegas back to the default settings by pressing Ctrl and Shift while I load it, and I've rebooted my PC but none of those have resolved the problem.

I think Vegas Movie Studio is excellent but this is the second time this problem has happened and it's starting to really pee me off.

I fixed it the first time by reinstalling the software, but I don't want to keep doing that. I just want to know what I keep doing wrong and how I fix it.

Please please help.

This happened at my friend's house a few months ago, but I don't really remember what we did to fix it. Try clicking on View>Media Generators to maybe resetting the window to it's rightful place below. Someone also said to right-click the taskbar and unlock it, and pull it down to see if it's hiding under there. We did get it to work again fine, so there is hope.

Clicking on View > Media Generators didn't help, and hiding the Windows taskbar and the Movie Studio status bar are two other things I'd already tried but they don't help either.

Thanks for your reply though.

The quickest, easiest way to open up the media generators window in my opinion is to press the alt key and the number 9. thats "alt 9' together. Your media generators window should pop up every time and as long as you dont have the window frames moved too far one way or the other you should easily see it. The window frames are a little different than the "keyframe window" you mention (which is another easily fixed issue but can trip people up - like it did me once). Typically you have 4 main "windows": the timeline, the preview window, the media generators/video event FX /mixer window, and the trimmer/media/explorer/transitions/video fx window. These windows (other than the timeline) have a tiny x, a tiny triangle, and a column of dots in the upper left corner.

I am assuming that your problem is getting your layout in such a way that suites your particular needs and not a software issue. If you play around with the windows you will find you can resize them, expand them, minimize them, even detach them and move them off the screen (by left clicking on the window and holding it while sliding your mouse around) - I have a dual monitor so I can slide stuff to the other monitor.

P.S. The other option to open the media generator window is to click view on the top bar and then click media generators - it will have a check next to it if it is activated. If it is active and you still don't see it your window is probably minimized - look for the little x - triangle - and column of dots and click on it to expand it.
