Cannot set GPU acceleration in Vegas pro 20 build 403.

I cannot set GPU acceleration in Vegas pro 20 build 403.
In Preferences > Video > "GPU acceleration of video processing" drop down list: my geforce gtx 1650 graphics card isn't listed.
In Preferences > File I/O > "Enable Hardware Decoding for supported formats" the check box is not there.

Try installing a recent NVIDIA studio driver for this GPU and try again?

If it's still not found try to force a reset of VEGAS. Hopefully it returns.

I upgrade my Nvidia studio drivers this morning, it made no difference.

I'll try a rest tomorrow.

I'm using driver 535.98 and V20 403 has no issue finding my gpu 1080ti, there must be something wrong with your set up. If you wish to see what Vegas finds when detecting your gpu then use notepad to view this log file:

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\20.0\gpu_video_x64.log

Look for any errors in the file.

(Intel 3rd gen i5@4.1GHz, 32GB RAM, SSD, 1080Ti GPU, Windows 10) Not now used with Vegas.

13th gen i913900K - water cooled, 96GB RAM, 4TB M2 drive, 4TB games SSD, 2TB video SSD, GPU RTX 4080 Super, Windows 11 pro

After you update the driver and reset Vegas while clearing the cache, you should see it listed.

But the question is, was it showing up before in a previous Vegas version?

.

I re-set Vegas Pro. It didn't fix the problem.

I'l try re-installing Vegas, hopefully that will fix ir though I'm not really convinced that will work.

Vegas Pro 20 is the only version I've used.

Resetting Vegas Pro, re-booting then uninstalling then re-installing VP didn't fix the problem.

I notice on running VP that the splash screen it shows that my Nvida geforce gtx 1650 card is loaded (I think, it's very quick and I'm not sure if that was the case before) so may be it is working though the "GPU acceleration of video processing" drop down list: my Geforce gtx 1650 graphics card still isn't listed.

Unless there are any more suggestions I might have to leave this for a while, I need to get back to editing.

Thanks for all you help.

Did C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\20.0\gpu_video_x64.log give any clues?

If you go to task manager/performance do you see activity with your GTX 1650 while VEGAS is in use?

The log file took a bit of finding.

There are two lines that may indicate the problem:

WARN 2023-06-14 11:16:10 Device type not supported
WARN 2023-06-14 11:16:10 Device is not compatible.

In Task Manager with Vegas running there is no mention of  NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 or any part of the name.

The only entries in Task Manager that could relate to the graphics card are:

4 x "NVIDIA Container"

1x "NVIDIA Web Helper Service (32 bit)"

I don't think the GPU works if it's not in task manager/performance. You see nothing here?

Does it show up in device manager/display adapter in Windows?

Sorry I missed "...Performance"

With Vegas running Performance > GPU, Video Encode and Video Decode are flat lineed until I play the timeline. then there's some Video Decode activity.

If I Render the video there's no Video Encode activity which I would expect to happed but there is Video Decode activity.

The GPU card does work normally driving my monitors. I have a AMD Ryzen 5 3600X CPU that doesn't include a GPU. That's why I initially installed the Nvida geforce gtx 1650

YES.

Video decode is handled in preferences/ file io in VEGAS. Does the NVIDIA card show up there? It seems like it is working.

In VEGAS the preferences/video setting should show activity in 3D when you playback a timeline.

For render there will only be encode activity if you are able to select a template that includes NVENC (MagixAVC or MagixHEVC). You should also see decode and 3D during a render if things are working properly.

When rendering there is 3D activity in the Task manager/performance

I'm not aware of such a checkbox. Can you share a screenshot?
I assume the legacy AVC decoding checkbox is unchecked/ disabled. Anyway if you see activity it's working so this seems fine. The rest is a question though.

One idea is to try one of the two benchmarks in my signature and report your times. Follow the render settings exactly and customize a NVENC render template. If you see decode, 3D and encode activity all is likely fine. If you see times that are similar to others with a CPU and GPU like yours, all is working fine and you can get back to editing.

It's getting a bit late here in AU. If it's OK I'll tackle this tomorrow.

Thanks so far for your help.
