Canon 5dMarkII video files with Vegas 8.0c

Hi All,

I'm trying to create my first HD dvd. I've created a series of video clips about 10-12 min long using the Canon 5D Mark II, DSLR video/camera. This camera generates .mov files with the following attributes on the file.

Video: 1920x1080x24, 29.970 fps interlaced, H.264
Audio: 48,000 Hz, 16bit, Stereo, 16-bit Little Endian

Which project settings should I use in Vegas 8.0c? Also which rending settings should I use? Not sure if I can use widescreen or full screen. I would like to maintain the currently quality of the video.

Thanks.

Matt

Matt -
Couple of things (which I don't think you're gonna like).

Now this is NOT the rule, but...
while I've done tons of editing in HiDef from my Sony Z1, I found the demands of the Canon 5d simply needed upgrading in just about everything.

First off - NeoScene made a HUGE difference in playback (like it worked... sort of)

In the end I upgraded my:
XP to Windows 7 64bit
2 gig Ram to 8 gig RAM
Vegas 8 to Vegas 9

I also prerender everything on the timeline to a new track in Hi Def 1920x1080 and then SOLO that track for final render to MPEG or whatever.

That work flow is pretty good - especially when I solo the premix.
It all plays in Full Resolution at sound speed.

CAVEAT: I haven't worked on any true "long form" with the 5D - but my 15 or 20 projects from 2 to 7 minutes are pretty problem free with the above setup.

Good luck,
v

I am very frustrated at my inability to have viable .MOV video clips fro my Canon D5 Mark II work in Vegas Pro 9.0!! The system crashes every time I try to build a simple project! My pC runs Windows 7, I have 8 Gbof RAM, a quick processor Intel Quad, and never had a problem with large projects in different formats before. What's going on here?! I set properties to the 1920x1020, 30 fps, but I can't get to see ANY video at all! (sound is OK). And, like I said, the system regularly crashes after a few minutes. Pleas HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Probably you should look at DVFilm Epic I. It promises Vegas 9 stability on large quicktime projects and
real time playback. http://dvfilm.com/epic

It should probably be mentioned again, that Vegas is not the only NLE that has problems with 5D/7D footage.

A quick google will lead you to thousands of posts on Canon-centric forums describing these problems. The majority of these threads seem to mention editors other than Vegas . . .

sguandal What version of 9.0 are you using and what flavour of itunes/quicktime are you running?

SCS would be doing themselves and everybody a huge favor by compiling the Canon .mov file info and making a sticky at the top of the forum.
