Canon AVI (PAL) > Vegas > DVDA5 (NTSC)

OK . . .

Having been stimulated by the other thread on upper and lower and progressive and interlace etc etc, I came up with the following workflow, knowing that:

A] I am starting with Prog PAL 30fps and square PAR.

B] My SONY DVD STB & Bravia can read and play NTSC as well as PAL

ok . . .

1] Load up Canon material into VP9a

2] Set project by "showing" the Project Preferences the material, and it comes back as 30 FPS and the correct ratio and square PAR - this is a good thing!

3] I edit, colour grade and eventually produce a Lagarith 30fps square PAR output AVI

4] Load this finished Lagarith AVI into DVDA5 and set preferences for NTSC at 29.97fps

5] Prep and burn

6] Finish and play on BRAVIA, looks rather jolly!

Now, is there any part of this workflow that makes anybody wince?

Please remember I WAS previously attempting to remain loyal to PAL and 25fps, but that, my friends, just showed-up and double underlined my massive lack of programming and understanding of the conventions around frame-rate conversion. Needless to say, John Meyer courageously attempted to lead me through this, for me anyway, minefield of frame-rate manipulation. I was attempting to stay with 25fps before the penny dropped for me that I had kit that COULD play NTSC ( meaning 29.97 . . fps) AND that the PAL from the camera was 30fps.

So, to my methodology, apart from the 3/1000 of a frame rate disparity, how does my workflow pitch-up? I might add that the Lagarith CODEC looks brilliant! The colours and flow of frames are quite natural.

What I might also try is Satish's FrameServer to produce the Lagarith output ( saves space?) and import that into DVDA. Maybe that wont work . . ?

TIA,

Grazie
