Canon EOS 7D

I'm trying to edit a short I filmed on the 7D, but some of the footage isn't playing right on Vegas Pro 9. At first things were working, but now some of the footage and jpegs go black, red or solid green in place of the images. How can I fix this? At first I would copy, open a new Vegas the paste. It worked for a little bit, but the issue is coming up again.

In my experience jpegs go red when they exceed the resolution of 4096 x 4096. Reduce the resolution and the red frames are gone. Hope that helps.

Yep, I believe your running into a memory issue that Vegas has with the Canon's native quicktime. It also manifests itself if you have a lot of high res jpegs.

The popular workflow is to transcode the footage to Cineform. I've also had luck with MXF files and Avid DNXHD.

Hope this helps.

I have a 5D Mark II and my HUGE still images are fine in VP9. My problem, and I think yours is with the video. You have to transcode the .MOV files to something VP9 friendly. Cineform Neoscene is one option $130.

Vegas doesn't do well with QuickTime, but converting to another format is an easy solution. This should help: http://eugenia.queru.com/2008/09/15/intermediate-codecs-the-face-off/

This is another Vegas/5DmkII user, so be sure to check out the rest of her blog.

I have used MXF a lot for AVCHD as well with great success.

I think you can actually do some kind of batchrender with Ultimate S from www.vasst.com
