If you are talking about the Canopus ADVC-300, when you plug it into the firewire port does Windows recognize it as DV camera? (it should). If Windows doesn't acknowledge and show it as a device on your computer, Movie Studio will never see it.

Also make sure in Movie Studio that you are using the DV capture tool and not the HDV capture tool since the Canopus emulates a DV camera.

i.e., Project | Capture Video... | DV

Although there won't be a connection between your computer and your VCR or camcorder. So you'll need to turn off camera controls, as I explained in this thread.

You may have to use legacy firewire drivers on your Windows machine.
