Canopus ACEDVio card and Vegas

Salamander wrote on 1/7/2006, 11:52 AM
I just got a Canopus ACEDVio card to install in a computer I am building. I will be using Vegas for video editing. The Canopus card comes with ACEDV Controller software, which has optons for adjusting image and audio settings. Do I need this software, since I will be using Vegas?

One other question. The installation manual says not to use the 4-pin power connector if you are not using a bus-powered device with the card. I will only be using the card to connect camcorders which are powered by an adapter plugged into the wall socket. Given that, I assume I do not use the 4-pin connector. Is that right?

Salamander, with regard to the controller software it should be installed. That way, if the Vegas vidcap doesn't perform well you can preview with the controller to see if the ACEDVio card is seeing the incomming video stream. The other question about the 4 pin power connector I don't know, as I have the older ADVC1394. You should take that part of your question to the Canopus ACEDVio user forum accessed from the Canopus USA web site.

Hope this is useful to you.

I still like editing with 1394 previewing whenever I can, even when working with HDV via proxies. The reason is that when previewing, only the altered parts are reduced to whatever previewing resolution you have set. If you're like me and do mostly straight cuts with the odd crossfade here and there, it means you're looking primarily at full resolution SD video rather than reduced resolution even if you set the video down a notch or to to save CPU cycles.

Could you give some feedback when everything's set and you're up and going with the card ? performance, etc... I'm considering this card too for previewing and also to convert analog tapes to digital... : )

I'll try to remember, though it's going to be awhile. I'm collecting parts now, but the actual build will be several months at least. I'm buying various parts as I can afford them, trying to spread out the costs a bit.

Anybody, then, have tried it so far (ACEDViO) ?
