Canopus ADVC-110 and Movie Studio 4.0a...

Before I make a purchase, I'd like to gather some opinions from more experienced users. I'm running Movie Studio 4.0a on a Toshiba laptop...Pentium 4 (2GHz), 512 MB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce Graphics with 32 MB RAM. My goal is to capture analog video from a VHS VCR, and I'm considering the Canopus ADVC-110 Analog/DV Converter for this purpose. My recent attempts to use the Dazzle DVC 90 and the Pinnacle USB-700 devices were unsuccessful. (dropped frames, problematic Pinnacle Studio 10 software) So my hope is that the Canopus Firewire device will yield a better result. I've had past (and repeated) success capturing video (via Firewire) from my Sony Digital-8 camera...hence, my general feeling of comfort with Firewire acquisition, versus USB 2.0. I'd like to know about the experiences of other Movie Sudio users with this Canopus product, in terms of video-capture. Thanks for any and all information.

I use Movie Studio 4.0a(build 48) and a Canopus ADVC-300 which works great. The Canopus ADVC-300 is just an advanced version of the ADVC-110 so the 110 should work just fine in Movie Studo 4.0.

I also had a Dazzle product and was not satisfied with it nor the software that came with it. I returned it and purchased a Canopus ADVC-1394 and VMS and have not had any problems with these. Canopus makes a very good product and VMS is very hard to beat for the price.

The Canopus is a great box. I use the ADS Tech A/V Link which is a little less expensive and I believe has truer color reproduction (that is closer to the original analog tape) than Canopus but that’s a subjective personal observation on my part. It also has more options for connections (i.e., component, composite, S-Video) than the Canopus box. Either way, firewire will give you much better results than the USB capture devices for DV and both work great with VMS and the full Vegas product.
