cant burn DVD, not enough memory

strange problem this and I cant work out why it is happening.
I'm using Vegas 3 and burn to DVD with Nero. I'm posting here because I've always managed to find someone with the right answer on this forum.

My graphics card died so I had a new one fitted(nvidia 6200) this was incompatible with 98SE + the PC would not shut down, sound from CD's only came out of the right hand speaker and suddenly when i tried to burn a DVD (of anything) i get "not enough memory" error even before I put a blank DVD in the drive.
replaced the new 6200 card with a 5500 + the PC shuts down properly now. replaced the DVD burner with a new one + sound now comes out both speakers, but I still cannot burn DVD'c. CD's burn OK so I can make VCD from the Vegas timeline but I have had to stop work on both the films I am making.

There is 20 gb spare on drive C, changed the swap file to drive E, made no difference.

Help anyone please.

FIrst suggestion, upgrade the OS!

First guess is that the problem came from something installed by the Nvidia disk(s). In particular I would suspect something to do with a change in a version of Direct X. It may have also installed something that is running in the background that is causing the conflict. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del and stop everything except Explorer and Systray after first re-booting then try burning again. You may need to use a registry cleaner first if you re-install the software from Nvidia.

You don't by any chance have AnyDVD on your computer do you? If so upgrade to the latest version. There were conflicts with Nero and Nero Recode.

There have also been problems with DVDShrink and some versions of Nero after the Jan 31 update. You can try first using Nero Clean Tool, then revert back to Nero 6.6.0.18. Some people have also had to switch media after a Nero upgrade or downgrade to get it to work properly. Nero Clean Tool is a MUST if you mess with changing Nero versions.

Try the "Image Recorder" and then burn from the hard drive image created.

Nero version 7 7.0.8.2 (Mar 07, 2006) addressed amongst others the following issue:

"Fixed "Out of memory" problem during video conversion"

"Out of Memory" errors with different versions of Nero aren't new. And they have occurred with Windows XP users as well. Besides, upgrading to XP will probably require a new computer or some major upgrade changes to your system because it is a resource hog compared to W98SE.

Thanks John. Your advice was spot on. Used clean tool then installed 6.6.0.18. Burning back to normal and loads of other strange problems disappeared @ same time.

David.
