capture and play problems

Hi
I am having two problems with Vegas Studio that I hope someone can help me with.

1. When I am capturing from my video camera the software creates a new clip every 5 - 10 seconds, mostly of exactly the same size. This means that when it all appears on the timeline there can be hundreds of clips which are unmanagable.

2. If I exit vegas and open a media clip or any video file from the hard drive and play it in another media player (WMP or VLC player) - and then close it - when i try to open Vegas again no file or project will play, merely moving the cursor briefly and then stopping. In order to get vegas to play again I have to reboot the computer. Very tedious.
I'd be very grateful for any help.

What camera?
How do you capture? (firewire, usb, card reader...)

Hi
Wow! Quick reply.
Firewire from a Sony Handycam (DV tape).

There are two preference settings that might be affecting this.

- Options / Preferences / Disk Management / Maximum size per DV clip
- Options / Preferences / Maximum capture length

If either of these is enabled then VidCap will create a new clip every time either limit is reached. Make sure these are both disabled.

Why do you shut down Vegas when you preview a clip in another player? Why not leave it open?

Thanks for that.
the setting 'Maximum size per DV clip' wasn't enabled, and nor was the maximum clip length.

Tried it again and the same problem - the clips seem to stop at about 40Mb, although some go a little further (50-55).

Very odd. Might try reinstalling in case I've clicked on something I shouldn't have. Any more advice?
Thanks for the help so far.
