Capture (and preview) Screen Size and Proportion??

I don't think I'll ever get a movie made? As I'm not sure of the actual terminology to use I'll use actual measurements taken from my monitor. I imported half a movie I put together in VideoWave 4 to try to finish it. The actual size on the preview screen is 3 inches high x 4 inches wide when played.
I captured more scenes from my (analogue) camcorder and they are tall and thin!!!?? The actual size in the preview screen is 3 inches high x 2 inches wide with a 3 x 1 inch black bar either side filling up the rest of the screen.
I have read just about everything and can find nothing that tells me how to get the normal size.
Oh, by the way when I'm capturing, the proportion on the capture screen looks correct with light blue above and below. It's when it's played in the other (preview) screen things go wrong. Thanks for any help that might be forthcoming.

It's very rare for me to answer my own question but I thought this might help someone else. I found the answer by a complete fluke. I was checking on the NTSC frames per second in answer to a third party question. I opened 'Capture' then 'Video', opened 'ATI Rage Theatre Capture Properties' and then saw 'ATI Rage Theatre Capture Capture (yes two of them) Properties' underneath and wondered what it was? I clicked on it and just like magic it opened up the full screen format. I tried putting a screen shot to make it clearer but I found it doesn't paste in this forum. I haven't the faintest idea why this is not default, but like the audio I have to set it everytime I open the system.
Hope this makes sense to those interested.
