capture audio problem

I am a longtime Vegas user, but brand new to the video aspects. Today, I bought the 4 to 6 firewire cable to hook my handycam to the computer. The video clips captured fine, but the audio is terrible. I use an Aardvark Q-10 soundcard with ASIO drivers. I noticed that on the Aardvark mixer panel, my audio sampling rate was changed to 32 kHz (from my usual 44.1). I have attempted to reset it, but each time it resets and the audio is choppy.

amd athlon XP 2100+ 1.7 gHz
XP pro
epox ep-8rda+ motherboard with nvidia nforce 2 chipset
all updated drivers

any help would be great help. peace,fs

It may well be that your camera captured 12 bit/32K audio, because Vegas will auto switch the audio to whatever is coming off the camera.
Right click the audio file on the Vegas timeline and look at it's sampling rate. If it's at 12 bit/32K, it's gonna sound weird. So...
Resample it to 16/48, and while it's not gonna be perfect, it will playback more correctly, as the asio card probably can't handle the 32 bit. Also try Windows Classic Drivers, that alone might satisfy you.
Check your camera, make sure the audio is 16 bit/48K...
