Capture Card Connect Problem

I am sure this problem has come up before, but I could not find it in the
forum (perhaps due to poor keyword use).

Anyway, I have a 2.4Ghz machine w/ 512M RAM, ATI AIW 7500 video card (overridding the onboard video) & 120G HD.
I have just installed Vegas and and am having trouble doing any captures
thru the video card.
Basically, I get a "Please connect to a device" message in the Preview screen
of the Capture Video app in Vegas and then it changes to "Preview Off".
Now, if I go to the Video tab in the menu, my card appears fine, but it does not have the circle next to it as the sound card does.
Also, if I select it, nothing happens. It does not seem to accept the ATI card as an option.

If anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate the help.
I dont know if this is a Vegas issue or card issue, but so far everything else works fine in Vegas and the Card.

By the way, I had this card and Vegas working fine on my old 450Mhz machine
and the installation was a snap (no tweaking).

Have you gone into Device Manager, to make sure your card and drivers are installed properly ? Also, have you disabled the onboard video in bios ? You may be experiencing some sort of conflict..

If you've got the ati multimedia software installed, Try & rename the folder for that software. You don't mention your OS, but this is a problem in XP Pro.

Also, your capture functionality will be limited in the Vegas capture app, so I'm unsure whether you'll find it worth it hassling with to get this part of things working. The capture applet is designed for DV, & though it should work with your aiw, it will not offer a compression option - capturing uncompressed should work, but you'll find that your drive fills up VERY rapidly.

Actually, I have gone into the Device Manager and checked. As far as I can tell it is installed properly, but I suppose something could be missing. I will try a re-install. As for the onboard video...I had to disable that to get the AGP ATI working in the first place.

Hmmm...it is installed in the Program Files dir. But it had been in the same location on my old machine as well (and it worked fine).
The OS is Win2k Advanced Server (maybe that could be an issue).

Right, I have no problem using the Vegas Capture app and I HAVE noticed the drive getting full quickly. On my last machine, I got about 1G for every minute of video.

Thanx for the help though.
I will try these out...hopefully, it helps
