Capture Codec

Has anybody had any bad experiences with the DVSoft Codec? I can load captured clips in to VV OK, but other apps such as Boris Red, After Effects, Commotion etc just choke and die. Worse, a clip I tried to load into DVDIt! caused a complete Win 2K crash necessitating in a rebuild.

I suspect problems might be Video Card (Nvidia TNT-2 with 32Mb RAM) related but would like to hear any other comments?

We have seen numerous complaints about DVSoft. The preferred codec for DV is the Microsoft DV codec that is installed with DirectX8. Quality is good, and it works with just about everything. You can use other DV codecs, but there is some compliance risk.

yes i'll agree it's "good" compared to the last version.

IMO it's OK for 1 (as in ONE) re-rendering ( generation) ... so i try to do all my color correction , re-framing , dissolves all in that ONE re-rendering...

it's good for web projects.... it's good if final use is VHS .. but OK for going back to DV tape.

if you really want to see the flaws in the MS dv codec a bit more clearly .. project the re-rendered DV clip with a good DLP digital projector. then project same clip re-rendered using the canopus codec.

with the $$$ microsoft has it should have a excellent DV codec. don't give me this stuff about microsoft throws it in for FREE .. i paid for it when i purchased win2K ... the only thing microsoft gave us for free was internet explorer years ago but now we are paying for it ....

the MS dv codec is my only complaint on vegas video. i've tried the main concept dv codec and it is very good but on my system it must render everyframe ( not just the transitions) and that is very time consuming ...

YES i'm considering getting canopus hardware so i can use their codec ...
