i assume you're talking about Pinnacles Dazzle card?? if so, it may be a proprietary thing with Pinnacle - that is only Pinnacles software will work with the Dazzle card.
but since all you need is either an mpg or avi for VMS, why not capture your video using Pinnacle 9 then use that video in VMS.

I don't think my card is Dazzle. It came in a box with the Studio 9 software. It has both the RCA inputs for analogue and a fire wire port.
I am doing just that for right now- capturing analogue video with Pinnacle in AVI format and then editing it in VMS. It seems counter productive though. I want to be rid of Pinnacle after what I have been through with their software, and the fact that I can only capture about 15 minutes of video before it begins dropping frames and gets the sound and video out of sync.
I found some other discussions on this forum that indicates that I will not be able to use the Pinnacle card because it is proprietary.

Your capture card usually only works with that software.
To capture in VMS I use a digital camcorder that has the pass through feature.
I input the analog signal into the camcorder and the camcorder converts the analog to digital DV format via it's firewire port. So the camcorder is connected to the computer via firewire input.
Many camcorders have this pass through feature. It's also nice to have a camcorder that can record on it's analog input so you can easily transfer the footage to DV tape. Once it's on DV tape it's backed up and can always be re-captured again from the dv tape.
