capture optomization, hard disk selecting, and analogue capture settings

Just a few qestions from a newbie as the title implies:
1)hard disk selecting: i added a 2nd hard drive (7200RPM) for capturing, but cant seem to get the video captured to that location.
2)analogue capture settings: When capturing 8mm footage via a Canopus ADVC-100 box, i was getting alot of "rough" spots where the video would flash colored blocks, partially obscuring the picture, and the audio would fuzz. Since, i've changed the framerate setting from the default down to 24 (film) and it seems to have solved the problem. Was this the appropriate thing to do, and will i suffer much quality loss?
3) General capture optomization: any tips on how to do this? i've turned off the preview box, since i was getting some 100+ dropped frames per 5 min and eventually hanging the computer, but i'm still dropping a few. Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks a bunch for any info on any of these topics.
I'm running a computer with a 1GHz AMD Athalon, WIn.2000, 2 40Gb 7200RPM HD's, and 512 MB RAM.
Thanks again!!!
matt

1. In the capture program - Options - Preferences. Add the new drive in the list of drives to capture to.

3. Sounds like something is set up wrong. Is DMA turned on for the drives?

Thanks!! I really needed that 1st one. :-)
As for #3, i can't tell if DMA is on or not... it's Win. 2000 and i can't seem to find the display for the hard disk that would show that info. Anyone with win 2000 specific info?

Thanks again for the reply. Unfourtinatly, it's #2 that i'm most in the dark about at the moment. More specifically, when i start a new project, there is a general "template" setting at the top of the screen. Below that are a few other options regarding interlacing etc. Below that is the framerate. It seems i can change the framerate within the template... sorry if this is unclear, but it is confusing to me, that i can change the framerate to something other that what's indicated in the template setting above.
Anyhow, i'm going to try and capture to the other disk now, and see if that helps. I'll also keep looking for that disk info.
Thanks again. Any further info an advice is much appreciated.
