capture problems

I'm trying to capture a video by vegas but after few seconds or minutes the video preview stops and vegas does not continue to capture the video while the camera continue to play correctly.
I deselected the checkbox about the minimum length clip (of course).
If I do not capture anything but I only push the play button to watch the video then it happens the same thing: after some seconds or minutes the video preview stops and does not go ahead.
I have windows xp, canon xm2.
Can someone help me? Any suggestion is appreciated

Try the

There is a lot of info about why dropped frames occur as written by myself and John Meyer.

Hi Spot, thank you for your suggestion.
I checked your FAQ but:
1) I'm capturing digital video from mini dv
2) I have DMA in my setting as you wrote
3) I tried to capture without programs in background without chances :-(
4) My computer is new bought just to editing video so I do not have virus yet neither codec or others files ;-)
5) I have 3 disk (40,160 and 160 Gb). I selected on capture options one of 160 Gb disk and it is all free.
6) Drivers: I think they are ok.
7) I don't know how to disconnecting the Firewire drive and then try the capture to a drive inside your computer.

Can you help me?

If you are capturing to a Firewire drive, then you could have problems like you describe, especially if your drive is a Western Digital made more than nine months ago. Also, the FAQ you have already read talks about a Firewire driver update from Microsoft. I suggest you download and install this (it comes with an un-install feature, so you can easily remove it if you decide it doesn't help).

Let us know whether this helps.
