Capture template size vs output quality? Does it matter?

My finished product is to be a vcd of family home movies. Noticed in the Project Properties that there are many settings to use. Highest being 720x408 and lowest being 352x240 for a vcd. Does the end quality of the vcd improve using the highest setting or should I just use the lower VCD setting. Does the capture setting vs the output result in different rendering times. So I guess my question is does a higher quality capture result in a better rendered down output file.

Thanks...

I had a similar question before. My question was: Why do you need to capture video at 640x480 for higher quality when you are going to output the video as vcd at 352x240? And would the video quality after it gets rendered be effected if the I was to capture video at 320x480 and output/render it as 640x480?

To get the highest possible quility out you want to start with the highest quality capture as possible. Just remember the old saying "Garbage in, Garbage out". I have captured both 352x240 and 720x480 in avi and rendered as VCD compliant 352x240 MPEG-1 and you do notice the difference. Not as much artifacts or blockiness when you capture at the higher res. If you go from a lower resolution to a higher one, you will definitely get poor output. You will get the same effect like if you would zoom in too much when cropping.
