For reasons too many to discuss here I need to capture my video to a networked drive. VV3 warns against this when I set up the capture path. Anyone working this way or am I wasting my time trying? I have a 10-baseT network.
Capturing a DV stream requires 30Mbps, and 10Base-T rarely performs better than 5 or 6Mbps. It just isn't up to the job. You need 100Base-TX or better for this. A firewire network will work nicely too.
While we are not CAPTURING to a network drive, we are sucessfully EDITING over a 100 Ethernet.
We are capturing onto an 80 Firewire drive and we sneaker net it all around when necessary, but we've also done quite a bit of editing over the Ethernet.
If you don't need a pristine preview, this definitely works - and costs about $50,000 less than an AVID fibre network. :)
