Capturing audio and video from a VHS

I am trying Vegas for the first time. I have a VHS with the audio running L/R into my soundcard. For converting video, I have the Director's Cut.

My thought was to put the audio in record mode and then capture the video. But they won't engage at the same time. I obviously can not start them at different times due to syncing problems. Can anyone help me out with this one?

Are you using Video Capture (File, Capture video) to do this? Or are you trying to record from the Vegas Timeline?

In Video Capture there's just a single "capture" button. Your description makes it sound like you're trying to activate two buttons at once.

I was using the video capture. Should I do this from the timeline? Would that be the only way to capture video and record audio from a different source other than the firewire?

I was. I thought the video capture would trigger the "record on". I was wrong.

Oh, firewire? Is the Director's Cut unit an Analog to Firewire converter? (Sorry, i'm not familiar with it at all; never even seen or heard anything about it except it's name.) If it is, then you must capture the audio through the firewire as well. Does this unit have audio inputs as well as a video input? If so, this is where you should connect the audio from the VCR.

I hear you, but it seems like I should be able to capture through better audio converters if I had the choice. Or is this a future update? I'm pretty sure that my RME ADI-8 Pro sounds better than my Director's cut.

Well, you can hound SonicFoundry's product suggestion page and ask for that feature. My guess is that they won't feel it's worth it though. Most firewire capturing is done direct from a digital camera/deck, or through a high quality converter.
