Capturing DV Video on 8.1 vegas (64bit)

Hello,

I am trying to capture my first video since I purchased a new computer, Vista 64 Bit, and for some reason the video does not get imported when I hit "Record tape", all I get is a blank screen.

When I hit stop I can see the picture on my computer of where the video is on my camcorder, but it wont capture anything.

Anyone else have this problem with 8.1 on Vista 64bit OS?

Thanks

I captured a short clip of DV using Batch Capture in Vegas 8.1 on Vista 64.

I've been capturing DV & HDV on Vegas 8.1 on Vista 64 without any issues. Are you sure the button is called "Record tape?" The button you should be clicking on is "Capture tape" on the Capture tab.

Even if you get a blank screen, does a file get saved when you stop? What happens if you play that file in Vegas and/or a media player?

If you don't attempt to record, but simply Play the tape does VidCap show you video?

I have *lots* of problems with Vegas Pro 8.1 on Vista 64 - for example, the trimmer window crashing it and causing bizarre display errors etc.

But tonight I've had hell trying to capture DV (standard-def) using Vidcap 6 - although it saw the camera there were repeated crashes - sometimes as soon as I switched the camera on, others after capturing - saw lots of the blue screen of death and had to pull the power out the back of the PC so many times it was ridiculous.

And that's before you even get to running Vegas itself, that's just Vidcap. Really annoying. I'm using a Dell Studio XPS Core i7 PC with Vista 64 Premium.

David,

A blue screen of death is usually a sign of driver-related problems, those problems may not be caused by VidCap/Vegas. You may want to look at DELL's web site for updated drivers for your system, or Microsoft's web site for any Vista hotfixes that might be related. You might also want to check if the manufacturer has any special drivers for your camcorder.

Yes it's funny but I cant preview when capturing from DV with 8.1, but atleast I can preview the clips once captured. With 8.0 this preview did not work for me.
