Capturing Issues

I have a Sony HVR-M25U deck and I have never had any problems captuing in to vegas. I keep getting this error message when I want to capture :

"The Device Microsoft AV/C Tape Subunit Device could not be opened.

Please make sure that it is turned on and is not being used by another application or user."

I have tried restarting the program and then turn on the DV Deck, reboot the computer and still no luck any suggestions???

Thanks

try running a tape - my m15 sometimes gets a little confused and i find i have to run a hdv tape before vegas picks it up. then again, i suppose it's vegas that's actually getting confused.

have you tried hdvsplit, just to check if you can capture full stop?

and, last, but by no means least - try another firewire cable - in fact, try that first.

I tried running the tape method and that works! I tried another cable and still the same error message.

Usually when I power up the DV Deck the computer automatically recognizes the hardware and prompts for capture to vegas. What's really strange is that I can capture the video, but now I don't see the DV Deck in "My Computer" device.

Now when I try to export to tape, I can't access the deck??

ANy thoughts?
