Capturing stills from Video

Does anybody know of some afforable PC software that will grab a number of video frames and "blend" them to get rid of noise?

I have to capture some stills from VHS. Previously someone mentioned: http://www.salientstills.com/product/product_intro.html
[The "light" version costs $9,950.- !!]

Mac users can download freeware that does exactly the same called Frameblender at: http://www.dragonflydigital.com/software/samples.html.

The same principal is used for a number of different applications. Steve Mann, one of the pioneers of wearable computing http://wearcam.org/ uses it to increase resolution and/or contrast ratio for some of his wearable systems.

I have done some web searches, but am not sure what search words will give results. Tried "picture interpolation" and "frame capture" or "video still capture"....

Your words of wisdom will be greatly appreciated.

I have experimented with a program called Image Stacker: http://www.tawbaware.com/imgstack.htm

It is a $17 shareware and it might help you.

It is made to simulate long exposures from a sequence of digicam-pictures, but could also be used to blend video frames.

Use VirtualDUB to export an image sequence, then use Image Stacker to blend the pictures in the sequence.

Best regards,
Eirik

Thanks! That is exactly what I was looking for. PixelZap from that site also looks promissing. Thanks for including the info on using VirtualDub to export image sequence. That saved me some future teeth-grinding :-)
