Capturing Stills Instead of Clips (24f)

Hi,
First time posting here. I'm hoping to find a concise, easy to understand (I'm not all that tech-literate... yet) answer and hope that you guys can help. I have Vegas 8 Pro b (love it). I shoot with a Canon XH A1 and capture from a Canon HV30. I shoot in 24f. My computer is a Intel Q6600 Quad Core Processor Overclocked to 3.0G. When I capture footage shot in 24f through Vegas (from either my XH A1 or HV30) I get only stills. If I shoot in 30f or 60i all is fine. I'm currently using Cineform Neo as a workaround. Can anyone explain to me why I have this problem capturing in 20f
Many thanks in advance,
Sprague

I can't explain why that happens, but I can tell you that I have the same problem when I try to use 24f mode on my XH-A1 and capture the video using Vegas Pro 8.0b. However, I am able to capture the video without any problems when I use Vegas 7.0 to do the capturing. Then I can import the videos into Vegas 8.0 and everything seems to work just fine. It just seems that the capture function in Vegas 7.0 is more agreeable to working with the XH-A1 than in Vegas 8.0.

Thanks for getting back to me on this Rick. I think by the lack of answers to my question not a whole lot of light can be shed on this problem. Unfortunately I switched over to Vegas at vr 8 so don't have 7 to fall back onto. In the meantime I'll be using Cineform.
Thanks,
Sprague

what about a 3rd party DV capture app? I forget a free one that's mentioned around here but there is one.

Back in the "old days" when I was still using DV tape I never had much success capturing via Vegas. What did work for me was Scenalyzer LIVE. It is not free but is relatively inexpensive and it worked for me for years. Great scene detection. Rock solid software. Great support - you can e-mail the programmer with any problems and get a personal response.

There is possibly a trial version.

Thanks all! I have been using Cineform and have had good results with that. What I really wanted to know was why this was happening in Vegas... and in turn to try and learn more about the program.
