capturing telephone audio

Anybody out ther ever put telephone audio into a video?

I'm working on a video that's due in a couple of days and at the last minute I need to include some comments from a person that can only be gotten by telephone. I have the persons permission to capture their end of the call but am stumped on the best way to acheive this.

I've got a good quality cordless phone that has a small jack for a headset. I am wondering if I can feed that jacks output into my soundcard or ADVC-100 and capture it that way, or is there an easier way. Any ideas?

Your cordless phone headset jack is worth a test beforehand.

Radio Shucks has an inexpensive box that is "OK", to hook up to the line.

For a step up in quality, check out the JK Audio Auto Hybrid.

Thanks. I've got the call scheduled for Tuesday afternoon so tomorrow I need to see if I can find an adapter to change the 1/16 jack on the phone to a 1/8 on the other end. I also cleared it with the client today that we may end up not having that commentary or might have to have another person read it.

If your computer has a modem and a mic, you could start audio recording in Vegas and make the call from you computer modem. The conversation will play through your sound card and Vegas will capture everything. I did this to record some messages left an answering machine once and it worked great. (I used Sound Forge but Vegas should work the same)

Good idea, but no modem installed at this time. I've got one in storage somewhere. Too much to try to get it installed and going. I'll definately save your idea for next time.
