Hi,
Video edting requires that videos be captured to a dedicated HD.
I've noticed that when rendering that pre-rendered files are saved on the same drive and directory that VV is installed .
I think it depends what drive it is where you installed VV.
On my system OS, programs, datas and dv-capture-footage are all on separate partition, capture files on separate HDs.
Prerendered files are the one which are most often generated and deleted on my system so these one are reason #1 for fragmentation of the partition. So I isolated it.
Still confused..
It is generally said that one should capture files to a seperate 7200RPM HD also when printing back to tape it should be from a seperate HD to the OS and that VV is installed on.
A seperate partition for video editing that is on the same drive that the OS is on should also be avoided.
However when printing to tape, by default, the prerendered files are saved on the drive that the OS and VV is installed on.
Does'nt this defeat the whole object of a seperate HD ?

There is no requirement that the files be on a separate drive. It was the case with slower computers that this would often help avoid dropped frames. With my 866 P3 i can capture and print using the same drive as the OS (and it's an old ATA/66 drive) with no problems.
The main reason i use other drives is because my OS drive is only 20GB and doesn't have much room left on it.
I dont have VV installed on this computer, but there is a setting I am shure where you can change the destination of the rendering if its not in the options.. look in the ini file. It is recommended to use a dedicated drive for video 1) its faster access time when its dedicated to one media, 2) fragmentation has a smaller chance of occuring, remember that DV is a stream media meaning that its better for the HD not to bounce around looking for bits. In reality there is little chance that you will have any problems if using the same HD its just will be a bit faster and much more efficient if you use a seperate HD, they are cheap now.. I just bough a 100GB for about 300 CHF I am shure you can buy it cheaper in the other places.
