Capturing Video

My husband has a new professional hi-def video recorder he has purchased. We are in the process of purchasing Vegas Pro 9. In the meantime we'd like to start capturing some video that he has taken. When we begin to capture, the video is stretched like widescreen making everyone short and fat. Not a good selling point! :) What do we need to do to change that?

If you are just doing family/travel videos, then you don't need Vegas Pro. The Platinum Edition version 9 is all you need.

Then, regarding the stretching of the footage, you just need to open the "project properties" dialog, and then click the little "match media" yellow icon in there, and select one of these files. Vegas then will autofill the project properties and use the correct aspect ratio. The only manual changes you need to make in that specific dialog is to select "best" for rendering quality, and "interpolation" for deinterlacing. Then, edit.
