Capturing Video

KingCobra71 wrote on 7/11/2002, 5:28 PM
I am trying to capture video off my Canon ZR40 using the FireWire port that came with mt SB Audigy sound card. I have had little luck. Is this firewire port compatible with this software or do I need to purchase a seperate card?
If the SB Audigy firewire port can be used, am I doing something wrong?

Sorry for being so green, any help would be appreciated.

I have a Canon ZR45 and have no problems at all.

What type of problems are you having? Don't work at all, dropped frames, something else?

Does Windows "see" your camera?
Are you using a SEPERATE hard drive for capture?
Do you see 'DV IN' in your viewfinder/LCD panel?
Have camera set to VCR mode?
Is your firewire card 100% OHCI Compliant?
Did you change to 'OHCI Compliant device' under Options/Preferences/Video Device?

THanks for your reply.
Yes Windows does see the Camera, I have had no problems using it with Studio 7 and Premier. When I try to capture video with VV3 it wont see the camera period. I am not sure if the firewire port that came with Sound Blaster Audigy sound card is 100% OHCI Compliant. I went to the web site but couldn't locate the answer. I was hoping someone might have tried it with this program and could give me an answer. You would think that beinfg able to capture video using it with other programs it would be usable with VV3.0.
"Did you change to 'OHCI Compliant device' under Options/Preferences/Video Device?"
Will look into that, pretty sure I did, but I am not at home right now to check.

If you have any other suggestions please feel free.

Thanks

fwiw, I've heard nothing but good things about the Audigy and I have one myself. AFAIK it is, as far as anything can be, 100% OHCI compliant.

VV3 lacks a lot of the deck support Premiere has, but it uses the same type 2 DV so you may just want to use it to capture. I use SCLive.

Just to make sure I am clear, you are saying use Premier to capture the video then use VV3 to edit and render, then use Premiere to send back to tape?

It's never a bad idea to keep any Pinnacle/Studio video editing software and capture drivers OFF your computer. Lose the Studio 7 program.
Try to uninstall any capture driver from Pinnacle/Miro, if any.
Re-install Vegas and Premiere.
