I have a VX2000 and a Sony DCR-PC5. I shoot with the 2000 and edit with the PC-5. Works fine.

What you can't do is shoot with a Canon and edit with a Sony or the reverse. At least that is what I have found on multiple occasions.

I use an older Sony DV camcorder (TRV7) to play tapes made with my VX2000 and TRV900 cams, with no problems whatsoever.

Stephen,

Interesting. I wonder if anyone knows why that is the case. I would have thought that DV is DV regardless of who made the camera. Perhaps someone is not adhering strictly to the standard.

I use a VX2000, a Canon GL1, and a Canon ZR25. I have not had any problems using tapes between these cameras. I shoot footage with th VX2000, then capture and edit with the ZR25. Some manuals state that LP mode may not be compatable with other cameras, but I have not had any problems with LP mode between these three cameras.

Yeah, LP mode is not very portable, for the amount of extra time, it isn't worth the problem if you run into one.

My Sony DCR-TRV510 Digital8 does not support the Digital8 LP mode, but some newer Digital8s do. My camcorder was discontinued about two years ago, so it is reasonable to expect some obsolescence. I am a little surprised that Canon hasn't come out with a new flagship MiniDV camcorder, with better, bigger CCDs. I expect one before the end of the year. And maybe Sony will come out with something to compete with it.
