Capturing with Vegas 4.0

I'm getting ready to purchase Vegas+DVD Production Bundle and wondering what others are using for capturing. I am currently using a Pinnacle 500 card with Premier 6.0 but has always been very tempermental and I've never been overly happy with Premier. But every thing I read about Vegas nobody mentions much about capture cards. Can I just get a basic fire wire card to do the job?? Any recommendations? Tks

I am just using a bog standard firewire card, I don't use the capture side of vegas I prefer to use ScenalyzerLive a very good add on. You can set vegas to use this instead of its own.

Trknomo,
I use a basic IEEE 1394 compliant firewire capture card purchased at COMPUSA for $26 US and it came with a 6' cable. Never failed.

Yes, Vegas uses OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 for DV capture, external preview and print-to-tape. You'll probably want a card with at least 2 ports.

Scenalyzer is the best capture app out there, in my opinion.

Strongly recommended.
