Cartoon Speach Bubble Effect

Has anybody ever tried adding a speach bubble to their clip - you know the kind you get in every cartoon from Peanuts to Dilbert. I am trying to make an amusing scene in a video project.

I had thought that perhaps with compositing might make it work but my knowledge of this feature is nill.

Should I not waste my time or is it possible ???

where should I start - if at all ?

Create the bubble image in any photo editing or drawing program. Save it with a transparent background as a .png or .gif file. Drop this file on the timeline on a track above the video. Use the text generator to create a text event on a track above the bubble image.

Thank you Chienworks - I need this to run for 5 seconds or so ... meaning that it needs to remains over my subject for those 5 secs. In your opinion will I be able to position it accuately so it appears to be coming out of his mouth and keep it there for that 5 secs ?

I'm at work right now, but if I recall, the Sony Content (which I installed at home) on the CD actually includes several "bubble" gifs or jpgs. When I saw them, I thought, hmm, that'll be cool, but I haven't tried them yet.

If you haven't installed the Sony Content (I forget what it's called, either Content or Extras), take a look at it. There are lots of sound effects, graphics, and more.

Vince, yes. Use Pan/Crop or track motion to resize and position it. Have the image last on the timeline for as long or short as you want it to. Add fade in/out or other effects if you want to.

I can report to all that using the bubble in the extra content setntion it all works very well.

I have done exactly what Chienworks described in a clip I made of my daughter.

You can actually grab a pretty nice looking bubble (complete with a shadow) from Microsoft Word - look under Autoshapes > Callouts. I added one to Word, then did a printscreen, pulled it into photoshop, saved as a PNG with transparent background as Chienworks said, and the rest is history.
