Cat tracks on the screen

Don't laugh; I want to create the visual effect of a cat walking across the screen! Seems like maybe the old Pink Panther movies had something like this in the cartoon introduction to the movie... I want to show the bottom pads of a cat's footprints appearing one after another in a pattern as though the cat had stepped in paint and is walking on the screen.

Obviously, as each new step appears the previous footprints would remain in place. I thought of having multiple video tracks, with an individual graphic of a cat's foot on a transparent background on each layer. I also thought about creating a full screenful of cat tracks and revealing them one at a time w/Bezier masking and keyframes.

This doesn't have to be terribly realistic. In fact, the more 'cartoonish' it looks, the better. Does anyone have any ingenious ideas about how to do this?

Thanks!

Use a program such as Freehand/Illustrator/MS Paint, etc to make a print (lines and fill). Once made to your liking, save and export as an image file. Import that into vegas (of course, making the background green or some color that is not in your project). Once in Vegas, make the green or other color an alpha, use pan/crop to adjust a new picture of the same image to the other footprint (right then left, then right, etc) till you get what you are wanting. Or, while you have your graphic editor up, you could simply reposition the print to the alternate foot and save another picture and use the two. Stack your tracks in Vegas using this method. you can also add a sound effect once the print hits the screen. Hope this helps,

Find a cat's paw font (I'm sure you can find a free one easily on Google), and add them with the text generator using keyframes. Set the positioning exact or else the next paw will make the previous reposition.

I found this to get you started, but I have not looked at it.

I want to acknowledge and thank everyone for their helpful suggestions on my cat track question.

So far, it seems that gradually revealing sections of an image featuring several pawprints on a transparent background using bezier masking and keyframes produces a pretty convincing result.

Many thanks to all! You're the greatest!

Me? - I'd get a cat. have it walks through some harmless material that would then print onto a piece of paper. Dry it and then scan or video it or film it stright into vegas. DONE!

I bet CHIENWORKS has some aPAWling prints . .. lol!

Grazie

I think SwishMax has effects that can use an image of a cat's foot in various track-across-the-screen ways.

Here's one that I threw together after reading your post.
