Caution Before Installing Handbrake 0.10.5

Due to licensing issues, fdk-aac audio encoder has been removed from 0.10.5
If you have another 0.10.x version installed, the new installer will remove fdk-aac, leaving you with fewer options.

Unfortunately, fdk-aac is the only decent music encoder previously available in Handbrake, and the only HE-AAC version. The rest run from mediocre to horrid.

I suggest finding a copy of 0.10.2 or 0.10.3 on a reliable fileshare site, and not upgrading until the dust settles on the licensing issue or ffmpeg gets its own act together with their half-baked encoder.

Unless one absolutely must have AAC audio then the LAME MP3 encoder in Handbrake is very good. Down to 128k it should be as good as anything.

It has to do with delivery.
Although encoder options for the masses are limited, AAC audio is 99.99% deliverable with MP4/h264 video.
Although muxable, MP3 and AC3 are far from universally deliverable with MP4.
Scratch most anything Apple for AC3; scratch anything web-served for MP3.

It's a numbers game, not about what is possible for the hobbyist.

Thanks for the head's up Musicvid.

I'm running Version 10.0.6534 64bit. What's the difference between 10.0 and 10.2 or 10.3?

Minor bugfixes and x265 updates.
What you have now is very stable, and I still have it installed.
