That depends on your DVD player. There is a big difference in DVD players. Some players most likely can't handle 8mbps. What player do you have? One definite way to answer your question is to burn an 8mbps disc and put it in your player.

As Burton says it depends on your player.
All players use error correction when reading and the more trouble they are having the more apparent this will become with skipping or even freezing on playback. This will vary with the ability of the player to handle the format (each format has different reflectivity) & the quality of media. If you are experiencing problems then yes you can try helping the player by feeding it less data (lowering bitrate) but ultimately they should be able to handle 9.8Mbs

If you are using good quality footage & encoding settings are right you probably wouldn't see a great deal of difference between 6 or 8Mbs it is when you start dropping lower that difference will become more marked.
