Does anyone know why I can't get CD architect to show up in Sound Forge 5.0? It always showed up by clicking "Tools" before in 4.5. Surely there is a way to get it to open...Thanks!!!
CDA won't work with SF5 That's the reason I decided not to upgrade to SF5. I stayed with SF4, which does support CD Architect. Don't forget though, that CD Architect 4.0 can work "alongside" Sound Forge 5.0, not from within. CDA can dock to SF4.5, but with SF5 you have to open CDA seperately. However, the two installations can exist peacefully.
Find another CD burning software - Sonic Foundry thinks its OK to charge up the ass for their products & then abandon them for greener pastures...No wonder their stock is such a strong performer...Ha ha ha
As long as you are saving your files into the Microsoft .wav format from Sound Forge 5.0, you should not have ANY problems opening these files into the older CD-Architect. If you are Wondering about the Demise of CD-Architect, Sonic Foundry has decided that it would be best to look forward and channel their Development resources at other software options (such as ACID 3.0, Sound Forge 5.0, Vegas Audio 2.0 and Vegas Video 3.0). Due to this and the constant release of new CD-Burners on the market (and having to re-design the software to support each drive separately), they had to put the software on hold. When it came time to create our next generation Multi-Track Audio/Video editor, Sonic Foundry decided to bring back the CD-Architect Technology and incorporate that into Vegas Video 3.0's Time Line. With this, the software will even support most new high speed CD-Burners. For more information on Vegas Video 3.0, check here - http://www.sonicfoundry.com/Products/NewShowProduct.asp?PID=612
$420 just to get CD Architect capabilities of Vegas Video 3.0? How many people out there burning Red Book audio need a full-fledged video software?
I sure hope it regains life as a separate, affordable product again. It was a highly respected and useful tool for many people.
I also hope that I can get my existing copy to work again (see Upgrading...) Why should I have to buy something new when I already own something that ought to work just fine?
I have 4.5 on my Win-98 machine and thought about getting 5.0 for my Win-XP. My version of 4.5 has CD Architect. Does 5.o have this? My main thing is to take my mini-discs masters from live stealth recordings and add track marks where I desire and thenburn direct to discs using SF. Is all this possible with 5.0?
Sound Forge 5.0 will have Track At Once (TAO) CD burning that would automatically add a 2 second pause between audio tracks. CD-Architect (as well as the newer Vegas Video 3.0) allowed you burn using Disk At Once (DAO) burning that will allow for one continuous audio feed. Due to CD-Architect being discontinued before the release of Sound Forge 5.0, there was never any compatibility between the two programs. You would be able to have your previous 4.5 + CD-A installed on the same machine as SF 5.0 with out any conflicts.
If I create a wav file in SF 4.5 using CD Architect and create seperate tracks, can I burn this in SF 5.0 and still have this come out as one long file without any gaps between tracks?
I'm using Windows XP
Thanks, Nanook
BTW, will SF be making any updated drivers so us folks can use 4.5 in Windows XP?
Sound Forge would not be able to burn an audio file that you have created with CD-A. As stated before, Sound Forge will only record using the Track At Once (TAO) method which would either place a two second gap in-between tracks, or create one long track with no way to skip from track to track. Currently there is a special upgrade offer going on for Current Users of CD-A to get to Vegas Video 3.0. For more information on this special, call the Customer Service Department at 1800.577.6642. You would need to prove you current own CD-A by having a registered Serial Number, but the special offer would be worth your time (and is supported under Windows XP).
With the current version of Vegas Audio (2.0), it is not possible to burn a CD DAO with tracks and no 2 second gaps.
Vegas Video 3.0 is the first piece of software since the demise of CDA that includes this technology. This is what Sonic Foundry should do:
Port the technology from Vegas Video 3.0 back into Sound Forge. Don't make CDA another product, just add the technology into a plug in for Sound Forge. Charge $100.00 for the plug-in and everyone will be happy. Also, please don't tell us that it can't be done since the list of new burners is ongoing and cannot be supported. 90% of all CD Burners are now MMC3 compliant so just support the standard and you should have no problems. (This is probably what you are doing in Vegas Video 3.0 with a slight change for the non-MMC3 compliant burners.) You can make the updates portable so when you release a new burner list for Vegas, it will work with the new plug-in as well.
Also, remember that this has already been done for you. Why don't you just license the technology from Colin Hill (writer of CDP Burn). His tool works perfectly on most burners. See it's that easy!!!
