CD Burn Error

sedgwickd wrote on 6/18/2002, 7:03 AM
When I try to create a DAO disk, I get the following error:

The Drive has received an illegal command.

'ATAPI MMC Compatible'-(0)
'ESDI_506'-(1)
-'MITSUMI CR-4804TE 2.4C'-(0)
Module atapimmc.cpp Line 1243
An illegal request was received.
The parameter list length is incorrect.

Status: 00040200
Command: 55 10 00 00 00 00 00 00 40 00
Sense: 05 1a 00
Info: 00 00 00 00
Specific: 00 00 b0
Extra: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

Does anyone have any info on what might be causing the problem? I'm trying to create a 76 min CD using 80min CR-R media, but my recorder does support that type.

No luck from Mitsumi either.

There is actually an ATAPI code for this:
ASC ASCQ DTLPWRSOMC DESCRIPTION
Ah 00h DTLPWRSOMC PARAMETER LIST LENGTH ERROR

Does anyone know what causes this error?

Have you tried burning your CD through some other software? Same thing? Success?

I've used Nero and a couple of other programs - have no problems with these.

Thanks for your advice on searching for "ATAPI", but I've already tried this. Did some searching on Google using this and also "Parameter Length" and this is where I got the above error code.

Admit that a beer would be good at this point, but not too sure about this obsession with grasshoppers... (see other post - just trying to get this one back on track).

Actually I'm using CeQuadrant to do the same job, and burned the CD OK, but ideally I'd like the "all-in-one" package to do the whole job for me. So it's not holding me up, but I like the challenge and want to use VV for the future.

I have a Yamaha which has a "firmware" update which is available from their site. This is basically updated drivers. Does Mitsumi have this, and have you tried it?

I've been getting the exact same error with a HP 8200 series USB burner. It only appears when trying to burn DAO. I can burn TAO tracks ok. Unfortunately, I need DAO...
I've been in conversation about this with SF for quite a while now. They say that they've never seen this, and they suspect some driver problem on my system. I also use Nero, but it has its own drivers which bypass the OS to some extent. According to SF, Nero does not conflict with the Vegas CD burning feature. SF has suggested that an ASPI driver may be the culprit. I had indeed installed an ASPI driver at some point. I tried to remove all software and drivers related to the CD burner from my system, cleaned out anything related to the burner and ASPI from the registry, unistalled Nero, then reinstalled the latest HP drivers fresh from their web site. No luck, Vegas still gives me the error. And I haven't heard from SF in a while either. You should submit this directly to their support - keep resubmitting until you get a reply. And please let us know if you find any solutions!

This sounds exactly like the error I'm getting. I too tried to totally uninstall the ASPI drivers, but had the same issue!

My problem has now been resolved by SF. It was indeed an issue with the CD burner not being supported explicitely by Vegas. SF sent me a modified sfcdi.cfg file, which fixed the problem. I'm not sure if this will address your burner as well, I suggest getting in touch with SF support.

You should ask SF support for the latest update of the sfcdi.cfg file. The one I got fixes the problem with the HP 8200 USB burner specifically, but they may have further updates available by now.
