CDA Update

Most of the posts here asking about the update seem to be concerned with support for drives that don't work, etc. I thought I read earlier that SF said an update to write CD Text (Title, Artist, Song Tile, etc.) would be done. I do have the Premaster program which will do it, but this should surely be an integrated function in CDA. Any update on the update???

I understand that new features are added to upgrades, not updates which are focused on bug fixes. CDA 6 will most likely the first opportunity for CD text to be added, but of course I could be mistaken.

Well, I thought what I read was the SF was "surprised" that users wanted it but would add it to an "update." It does seem pretty fundamental -- even Roxio writes CD Text. It's a glaring omission from CDA.

Other software users do add major enhancements to free updates (NI added direct from disk streaming to Kontak as a free update, and that's a MAJOR enhancement). I'm new to SF products. Does SF take the view that only bug fixes are free?

There is a very real and immediate requirement from many of my clients for CD-TEXT and CD-EXTRA .

Sonic Foundry does release features like CD-TEXT as part of their updates.
(They have done it in the past.)

Unfortunately, since SF has since sold all of it's software assets over to Sony,
there is probably going to be significant time before an update is released...
That is if ... an update is released...

Why do you say that ? SF still will be doing the product development etc, albeit with *increased* resources (hopefully).

Sony didn't buy the software products in order to kill them off !

Geoff

Not to be a party-pooper, but large companies have long bought smaller companies just to kill off competing products. Microsoft has made that practice a fine art!

I don't know what Sony plans to do with the Sonic Foundry software assetts. However keep in mind Sony makes and sells lots "intelectual property" on CD's and DVD's. Maybe they want to limit or even eliminate a product that MIGHT be used to violate copyright restrictions.

Let's hope Sony does not have that goal in mind. Only time will tell.
