What are you kidding me? That would require a v6.0 release and an additional $99 out of your pocket, to get cd text.
I sometimes feel like the redheaded step child on the audio side with the sofo/sony apps. I see Vegas updates all the time with feature additions on the video side. I also see alot of things added on the streaming audio/video side also......I have yet to see any posts in these forums where users where complaining about not having these feature, but there they are for you in all their glory. You get at least 20 users in these forums griping about not having CD text, and it's like you get the blank stare look for updates. It's like someone in their sales and marketing department is sitting there going....."alright, alot of users seem to want this feature, therefore let's wait until the next version and we can get more sales because now the program will have more value to them". NO!!! Arshole This is a feature everyone other app has had around for the last 3 years now and you missed the boat. We the user, have run into the problem that now more people are familiar with this feature and we are forced to start using another app and will probably get confortable working with it and just continue to do so. We aren't going to go out and buy someone elses product, then turn around and buy yours because you finally caught up to the rest of the world. We've already moved on. It's called "Too little, Too Late syndrome"
I just think that at this point the focus is on acid/vegas 5...DVDArch. Not enough resources to go around to add cd-text. I'm glad we at least got a update. You're right though. Alot of people LOVED it when it was brought back from the dead. Sad that it seems that its in limbo again.
Here's to thinking "glass is half full" for next year for killer upgrades to ALL sony products...CDA6 included ;)
I have to agree. Sony co-wrote the Red Book standard, and CD-TEXT is now part of that. They now own this software. If this feature is ever added, I hope it's in an *update* to CDA5 and not the only thing to introduce a new version. When Sonic Foundry still had the applications, they would listen to their users. I know that most (if not all) developers were kept, but with different heads now running the company, maybe things have changed. I hope not.
I was happy to see that an update was available for CD Arch 5.0 (I check about once a week),
however it wasn't really what I was expecting. Yes, it was only a matter of time before Sony
re-branded the software, but I was hoping for a little more. Unfortunately, once again, I was
let down.
I am sure that all of you would agree that the step between Arch. 4 and Arch. 5 was a big one.
I would say that keep the Arch. 5 codebase and add to it. Arch. 5 still has a lot of life left in it.
I don't think it is time for them to develop and release an Arch. 6 right away. (However, they
rushed v7 of Sound Forge when it could of been just a point release.)
I have a feeling that they are going to take all of the suggestions that we have posted within
this forum and put them into Arch. 6 simply because they have gotten us wrapped around
their finger so tightly. Think about it... If they introduce Arch. 6 for $99 (upgrade) and it
includes all the things that we have been asking for (including CD-TEXT), will we pay it?
Of course.
So, in the minds of management, why would they 'give away' something now that in the next
year or so they can charge for? IMHO, I think it's wrong, however it's strictly business...
I fully understand that. I was just making a point/joke about the speculation that adding CD-TEXT would warrant a new version with upgrade pricing. It's still a good read.
