CDs Burnt In CD Architect Don't Play

I am having problems with CDs I have made from mp3 files. I first converted the mp3 files into wav files then used CD Architect to burn the CDs. To convert the files from mp3 to wav I have tried different ways including 'Switch', 'GoldWave' and 'CD Architect' itself and both the wav files and the mp3 play beautifully without any problems at all on my computer. The blank CDs I use are Philips CD-R, 700 MB, 80 Min, 52x speed. I use an internal Liteon CD/DVD Burner.

The CDs won't play when using a standard CD player and when I try them on my Hi-Fi system it's hit and miss; some tracks play, some don't. However, they play on my personal CD player and they play on my car CD player. I do realise that the blank CDs available for our home recordings will only play on the later players but I have now tried them on players just a few years old. I have tried burning at different speeds from low speed to maximum but this doesn't seem to make any difference.

Does anyone else have similar experiences or can anyone help me with this.

Many thanks.

If you're burning at 52x try experimenting with 8x, 16x or 24x. Every burner seems to have an optimal speed for burning audio discs and its rarely 52x. I have 3 Plextor burners and would never burn anything but a data CD at 52x and then only if it wasn't critically important. Also try some different media - Taiyo Yuden gives me consistently excellent results. Just keep experimenting and make sure to download the latest firmware for your burner.

You should never burn audio CDs at such high speed. Chances are they won't play on many playeers. This is a variable factor dependant on CD media brand (and even btach), burner, and the player. For reliable burning usually (around) 16x is considered the max.

This is nothing to do with CDA specifically - just a general rule of thumb. And also ensure you have latest burner firmware version. Versions are tweaked to keep up with developmental changes in CD-R media characteristics.

Also, why did you convert the MP3s prior to loading into CDA ? You can dump them straight into CDA and it will convert on the fly when burning.

I have this very same issue, content burnt with CD Architect seems only to work on certain players. Discs burnt will work on my pc, my DVD player and my personal cd walkman, yet the wont play on my HI FI cd player or cd radio cassette player.

Yet any cd I burn using Nero works on all of my cd players, this is both the same burner, same media and same burn speed, so to say it isn't CD Architect with the problem doesn't make sense to me.

Since I produce CDs for sale (my own work), I'm having discs returned and having to redo them in nero!

Are you burning in CDA with lots of plugins, what writer, what speed, with pre-render and Buffer Under-run enabled or not ?

No, don't use any plugins, well it scans for plugins at startup whether its using any I don't know. I have DVD Architect 5 & Vegas Pro 8 installed if thats any help as I know Sony shares it plugins.

I have Buffer Under-run enabled, would that make any difference?

The burner is TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S203P, burn speed is max. Media is Imitation (normally very reliable from my experience with nero 7)

Ive just tried the latest Nero 9 and that actually burns the same as CD architect (only works on some machines), but Nero 7 burns OK and works on all machines, so it could be a setting somewhere and not as I thought CD Architect itself.

What burn speed would you suggest for CDs? lowest possible, I always though that burn speed wernt really an issue for Cd's more really an issue for DVD Authoring.

EDIT: Just to add both my writers (LITE-ON DVDRW LH-20A1P is the other) wont actually burn below 16x

Many thanks for your help & advice.

If you are burning at Max, then bufferunderun protection could be the culptrit. I would never consider burning audio at Max - usually 8x or 16X. If you have a Plextor drive you can tests error rates with the PlexTools software. Try 16 x .

Dunno what your drive is - sound a bit of an anonymous OEM sort of name - may or may not be a factor, but the LiteOn is more 'mainstream'.

Imation is not a good brand. Different batches can be from totally different manufacturers ( they are just an office 'brand name' not a manufacturer'). Currently Taiyio Yuden and Verbatim dseem to be most relaible. TY is TY, and Verbatim is Mitsubishi( I think).
