Change Default Encode Mode?

Regarding the Sony AVC/MVC CODEC, is there a way to change the default value of the Encode Mode parameter from "Automatic" to "CPU-only", or is the only option to create a custom template with Encode Mode=CPU-only? I am seeing significantly longer rendering times with the default setting of Automatic.

Vegas is very guarded about changing the original templates. That's probably a good thing. I make custom templates from the originals and save them with a name that's different. Usually, I change the bit rate but I always use CPU only.
