With me it works the other way around. The master audio bus changes also the timeline and thus the output at export. The Windows volume slider does not change the timeline audiosettings, but only what you hear at preview of the files in the Vegas explorer.

@j-v I think we are at cross purposes here. @set was referring to the Preview fader not the Master volume fader. It doesn't affect the timeline or export volume.
