Right click in the empty area of Master Bus audio tab>Show Preview fader.

This fader will control the volume of media played in Explorer tab & Trimmer's tab.

@j-v Also works, although I should have specified that I wanted to change the preview volume independently from the normal timeline volume. Thanks though!

With me it works the other way around. The master audio bus changes also the timeline and thus the output at export.
The Windows volume slider does not change the timeline audiosettings, but only what you hear at preview of the files in the Vegas explorer.

@j-v I think we are at cross purposes here. @set was referring to the Preview fader not the Master volume fader. It doesn't affect the timeline or export volume.
