Changes on one layer affected another

I have duplicated a layer because I want the same effects on that layer, but when I change the text on one layer, it also affects the text on the other even though they are completely separate tracks. I don't want this to happen, I need the effects copied from one layer so I need to duplicate it, but I want to change the info of each freely without them affecting each other, how do I fix this?
Example:

I need to change the text on the top layer, but it effects the duplicate layer below it even though I only have one selected, I don't want this to happen.

I'm using Vegas Pro 13

if my memory is correct, it's because you used the duplicate feature (tracks or MEdia / text). you need to create a new track, and new media Text, or when you do it and that vegas ask you if you want to create a copy or a brand new one, tell brand new (sorry, i don't remember the right line). it's a common error i was doing.

so if you want a duplicate Track, use it, but don't duplicate the Media / Text ! and if you put an effect on the mediatext/event, use the preset saving feature !
