Changing default settings in the VEGAS Titles & Text media generator

Jonathan-Burnett wrote on 3/16/2021, 3:02 AM

I've not been successful making changes to the font and the font size defaults in this text insertion tool. I mean, I can change the values for the duration of my use of it and I can even click on the save icon to save it into the "default" preset. But the next time I open it, my saved changes aren't there. Is there a way to make it accept my changes? I'm happy to edit a file somewhere if I can be pointed to it too.

Thanks!
Jonathan

Don't you need to save it under a new name as defaults cannot be saved?

@Jonathan-Burnett - Save the changes as JB Version1, or whatever you wish. And no, I've not heard of a way of saving OVER the Default, but I've only been using VP since 2003, but I'm always willing to learn.

So yes, I can save a new preset but I can't make that the "default" preset so I have to go and reselect it each time. That's why I wanted to change the default preset itself, so it's the way I want it right out of the gate.

If it can't be done, then it can't be done...

That's the way it is.

Of course, this is for VP18 and maybe earlier, what you save as your OWN Presets will appear within your MedGens >> Favourites as ones you want to reuse:

Here you can see me doing a QnD sample for you.

@Jonathan-Burnett - What CAN be done is to get to your NARRATIVE in a simple straightforward way - My example doesn't require you to fire-up T'nT: You Immediately Choose your Preset from Favourites and you are done!

Actually there is a way to change the default font used. But it isn't a trivial setting found in the VP GUI. You manually need to modify an XML file instead. See here.

I don't find a "Titles & Text" plugin like you seem to have.

Marco, that's was a great idea and I can use it to change the default font but it doesn't seem to be where I can change the font size (presently defaulting to 48 point). Would you happen to know where that could be changed too?

Thank you,
Jonathan

@Jonathan-Burnett

The font size default of Titles&Text actually is 96. It is the font size parameter in this XML file which is called "fs".

So in the XML file in the line …

<OfxParamPropDefault>{\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0{\fonttbl{\f0\fnil\fcharset0 Verdana;}} \viewkind4\uc1\pard\lang1033\f0\fs96 Beispiel text\par } </OfxParamPropDefault>

… change fs96 to fs48 if you want half the size of the default or fs192 if you want double size of the default.

I'm wondering now if we might be talking about two different text insert tools? I'm using the one you reach from the Insert menu followed by clicking on the Text submenu item.

You see when that text media generator pops up, Verdana is the font but the font size is 48, not 96 like what is in the XML file. See my initial post in this thread to see what the default shows me. By the way, I'm trying to make my default font size 12.

@Jonathan-Burnett

Yes, but the values used in the XML file and the one shown inside the Titles&Text window differ. Don't know why, Titles&Text always shows half of the value used in the XML file.
At the same time using the same value for the font size in Titles&Text and (Legacy) Text or Credit Roll will output a different font size in Titles&Text as it does for the two other titlers. My guess is the base scaling of Titles&Text which should be 1.0 actually is not 1.0.

Anyway, the process I described above works. If you want the default of Titles&Text to appear with a value of 12 you need to modify that XML line to "fs24".

You are most correct Marco and thank you for helping me achieve what I needed to!

I'm only afraid that you have to change these settings again after each Vegas update.

Marco. wrote on 3/17/2021, 2:31 AM

That coud be the case. Then simply save a copy of the modified XML file and copy back to the VP program folder after an update.

Really?? Even if I had the ability, much simpler/easier/storyboard is to Roll my own Presets and in the newer Favourites Schema is a dream.
